Anybody who wants to be the first to fly in a unique aircraft must mark Saturday, December 3rd, in their diary. That’s the day Air New Zealand takes the world’s first all-black Star Alliance aircraft out for its first commercial flight from Auckland to Queenstown.
It’s all about connecting Kiwis
The new Airbus A321neo registered ZK-OYB with MSN: 11049, touched down at Auckland Airport (AKL) on Wednesday at 17:58. Today, Air New Zealand Chief Customer and Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty told Simple Flying:
“The new aircraft is a welcome sign that the airline is doing what it does best – keeping Kiwis connected by adding additional capacity.”

The aircraft, officially titled an A321-271NX, arrived in New Zealand after a four-stop ferry flight from Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport, which started last Saturday. Along the way, it overnighted at Muscat International Airport (MCT) in Oman, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) in Malaysia and Cairns Airport (CNS) in Australia. It is now at Air New Zealand’s (ANZ) maintenance facility being readied for the first flight down to Queensland in New Zealand’s South Island.
