The 20th James Bond movie, Die Another Day, is a celebration of 007’s cinematic history, littered with references to the franchise throughout. Several iconic moments from the movies were recreated, with many sets adorned with props from the James Bond movie cannon. One scene in Die Another Day in particular, however, proved to be a treasure trove of James Bond Easter eggs and references.
In the 2002 movie Die Another Day, Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond visits Q Branch in a disused station of the London Underground. Bond and Q (John Cleese) enter the gadget maker’s warehouse, which is brimming with Easter eggs and references. Interestingly, the entire location is a reference to the classic 007 adventure You Only Live Twice, in which Tiger Tanaka refers to M having a secret subway station. The remaining references draw from Bond’s history, from the iconic to the ridiculous.
The Bede BD-5J Mini-Jet
Also known as the Acrostar Jet, the Bede BD-5J mini-jet featured heavily in the highly dramatic opening scene for Octopussy. During this, Roger Moore’s James Bond memorably flies the small, single-seater airplane through an aircraft hangar. In Die Another Day, the jet’s wings are propped next to the door as Bond and Q enter, and the jet’s body is mounted on the wall behind the pair as Q demonstrates his glass-shattering ring.
